🧠 Grammar / Strategy Focus
Modal verbs express degrees of possibility and certainty. Use may or might for something that is possibly true (“The claim may take two weeks to process”). Use must have + past participle for a confident guess about the past based on evidence (“She must have submitted the form already, since the confirmation came”). Use can't have + past participle to say something is almost certainly not true about the past (“He can't have received the email, because he hasn't replied”).
