🧠 Grammar / Strategy Focus

📐

In TOEIC Part 5, examiners often test subject–verb agreement with collective nouns (the team, the staff, the committee) and tense consistency (mixing present and past in the same sentence). Rule: a singular subject takes a singular verb, even when followed by a prepositional phrase ("The list of candidates is long," not "are long"). Use past simple for completed actions with a stated past time ("She applied last week"), and present perfect for experience without a specific time ("She has worked in HR for five years").
